Rule 6: Use It or Else

Use it or lose it.

A body that is not pushed disappears in months, not decades. Six weeks in a cast and the muscle on that side is half what it was. The same tissue that took years to build, undone before the bone is bored of the plaster. The body does not have a slow setting. It has a setting where you ask, and a setting where you stop asking. The second one runs by default. I lived in it. Chair, standard diet, the job, the story that I would get to it next year. At forty the small motions were already failing. The name of that trajectory, written honestly, is dying. I was not dying that week. I was on the calendar.

Health is not one priority among six. The marriage is real. The work is real. The land is real. None of them work if the body underneath them stops. Health is the first node. Everything else hangs off it.

Effie is the proof. I am the control arm.

The lesion on the thoracic spine was on the earlier imaging. On the follow-up it was not. Hip adductors and abductors at 150 pounds. Off the antidepressants. Off the stimulants. The heat wall that used to end a ride at 74 degrees now holds through 80. She stands on the strap, on purpose, while I spot her hands, because a nervous system that is not asked goes quiet, and quiet is how the disease gets the hardware for free. The standard playbook says avoid the heat, protect the energy, sit down. We did the opposite. The window she can live inside got bigger. You do not have to believe a myelin theory to believe a follow-up MRI.

Atrophy is not a side effect of the disease. Atrophy is what happens when a nervous system stops being asked to do hard things. The contrary playbook is the one in this house. Push a high-quality signal back in, every day, in a volume the system cannot ignore. The strap. The bar. The cold water. The driveway. Fights get won or lost in those rooms. There is no brave journey. There is a rep, and then another rep.

I am the version without the diagnosis, which is why the control arm matters. A hundred and ten pounds off. Fatty liver quiet. Insulin sensitive again. The same three inputs, on a body that was only fat and unused, produced a body that runs. If it works on the control arm and it works on the diseased arm, the variable is the asking, not the story you tell about the diagnosis.

Eat meat. Lift heavy. Bike hard. Pull any one of the three out and the other two cannot carry the load. That list lives in full in the foundation essay. It does not get chanted here. Meat is the fuel. The lift is the organ. Muscle is the organ of longevity, and it is the organ of independence, which is the thing the disease is trying to take. The bike is the aerobic ask that does not wreck the next morning. You are not going to out-supplement, out-meditate, or out-search a body that is under-fueled, under-loaded, and under-conditioned.

Myelin is fat. Asking a body to repair a sheath while you starve it of the raw material is a bad bet. That is the mechanism, and the certainty is the certainty of a house that measured, not of a textbook. Carnivore is how we implemented the principle. She runs stricter than I do because her immune system is the one trying to eat the wiring. I am not claiming the species is an obligate anything. I am claiming this implementation moved the meter in these two bodies.

The gym is not a personality. It is the available form of the work the land has not fully taken over yet. Basement, then the fire, then the rebuild: iron, sauna, cold plunge, red light. Land is the graduation. Cattle, fence, the weight of water. Until that work is daily, the bar is the ask. Both are the same physics.

Dopamine, once, so the other essays stop arguing.

The cold plunge raises the floor and does not send a bill. You get out, and the elevation stays. The cookie, the feed, the drawer at 3pm: spike, crash, invoice. One is a signal the body was built to pay you for asking. The other is a signal the environment was built to sell. death.md and cold-and-hot.md cross-reference this and do not invent a third version.

The small asks are the same physics as the bar. Floor instead of the couch. Stand up without your hands. Brush your teeth on one foot. The sit-and-rise test, cold, no warm-up. Every assist is a point, and it is also a rep they did not get. Do the work with them, not for them. The gift is the rep.

None of this is permanent. A year off the protocol and the cast math comes back. The fight is daily because decay is the default setting, and the default does not take a holiday.
